I liked Black Adam
By goz
Maybe ignorance is bliss? I went into the movie with no preconceived notions, aside from the negative headlines I had seen. Now I’m questioning my grasp on reality because I thought the movie was pretty good!
My no spoiler thoughts on Black Adam
Nobody likes a monopoly except for the monopolists. I want good DC Comic movies, if nothing else to make sure Marvel doesn’t start phoning it in. And you know what? Black Adam is a pretty good start.
The movie delivered exactly what I wanted, a bunch of action, a moment or two of serious thought & retrospective, and some humor. All three of these are in Black Adam. Going in to it I was a little apprehensive, almost every one of the headlines for the reviews were savage. I didn’t read any of the reviews and I’m glad I didn’t.
Assuming the audience has a clue
One of my favorite aspects of the film are that there are at least two scenes where you think you know what’s going on, but you really don’t. One of them is seems so stupid at the time that you can’t figure out why the scene played out as it did, but it is explained later on. There is no spoon feeding of information in this movie. Blink and you may miss something that seems unimportant in the moment but becomes very important.
These scenes remind me of the train station scene near the end of the first Mission Impossible movie, where Tom Cruise and Jon Voight are going over the events that led up to that moment. The movie relies on the audience paying attention and figuring out what’s going on, but there were a ton of complaints back then that people were getting lost.
If you like action movies, go see it
I undoubtedly am glad I went and saw this movie, and doubly so for seeing it in the theater.
