Invincible Review: An Engaging and Gripping Animated Super Hero Show
By goz
I just finished Invincible on Amazon Prime Video and I am blown away. Although the gore may turn off some viewers, it made the whole idea of super heroes a little more realistic, much like Amazon Prime Video The Boys does.
What is Invincible?
Invincible is an Amazon Prime Video show about a super hero named Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun). Mark is the son of Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), the most powerful super hero on Earth. As Mark starts to develop his own powers, he soon realizes that being a super hero is not as glamorous as it seems.
The show has some big names attached to it. In addition to Steven Yeun, the cast includes J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, and Walton Goggins. The show is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, who also created The Walking Dead comics.
Be prepared if you are squeamish, the show is very gory, with characters getting their limbs torn off and heads exploding. However, it is animated, which allows the creators to tell bigger stories and go places that live-action shows can’t. The first season is 8 episodes, making it pretty easy to binge.
The Invincible soundtrack is incredible
It’s a great list of music, and it fits perfectly into the episodes. I usually watch with subtitles, which show the lyrics, and they go right along with what’s going on in the episode.
Huge stakes and interesting takes on super powers
The show is not afraid to kill off major characters, which ups the ante and makes you care about the characters even more. The super powers are also interesting, with some being completely original, like one character who can turn his skin into armor. Time is also a factor in several of the super powers and villains in the show, which add an interesting twist.
Makes Marvel look even more Disneyfied
Invincible is a great show that realistically portrays how humans would deal with super heroes. Since the show is animated, it can take on bigger stories. If you’re looking for a super hero fix that isn’t as light-hearted as Marvel movies, I definitely recommend giving this show a try.
