👨💻 Browser ad blocking, the Facebook Portal, and more - This Geek in Review for 2022-06-17

Ad blockers and Chrome
I use an ad blocker, uBlock Origin, in whatever browser I’m currently using at the time. Right now, it’s Brave. After seeing the web in a browser without the blocker, I’m curious how people are able to even use the web.
If uBlock Origin stops working in my browser, I will jump to another browser. I’ve already taken steps to decentralize my passwords and bookmarks. For the former I use Bitwarden and the latter I use Shaarli. There are a couple of extensions that I rely on, but those seem to be available on all of the browsers I use.
Facebook wants to market to business
The Portal was Facebook’s answer to a dedicated video conferencing device. It did make it easy for the non-technical to participate in video calls, but apparently that market is pretty small. Facebook is now pivoting toward marketing the device to businesses.
If you know a business that is using a Portal, please let me know!
