Putting the WE into World Wide WEb
Part of my goal with the creation of GozGeek.com was to bring back some of what we lost since the MySpace days. A place on the web which isn’t tracking you, and isn’t manipulating you to stay on the site as long as possible. Unfortunately, it hasn’t gotten much easier to put up a site, right now my favorite is Tumblr. It’s pretty much the easiest way to put something online, and since it has been purchased by Wordpress, it will have a better chance of staying around.
The late 70s gave us more than disco
The first wave of personal computers was the latter part of the 1970s, and last week we celebrated the birth of the Apple ][. Sure, it didn’t have lowercase characters, but it did slots!
Why is it never the Merman?
My memory is pretty rotten, probably from years of Diet Mountain Dew abuse along with Hostess Ho Hos, but I still remember going to the theater to see Cabin in the Woods. I knew nothing going in except from what I could glean from the poster of a Escher styled house floating in air but my sister and nephew asked me to go along, so I didn’t think I had anything to lose.
The movie blew me away. I’m not a horror movie fan, but I do like smart horror movies, and Cabin in the Woods came with a smart story. The elevator scene is still one of my favorite scenes in any movie.
Panic’s new Playdate handheld console is now shipping, and I don’t know if I like it or not
When you look at a picture of the Playdate, the first thing you think of is, “How many fishing games can a console have?”. This is due to the crank controller sticking out of the right side. I love the idea of new control schemes, but I balk at the $179 cost. The reviews are raving, so there may be something there, but I’m too cheap to find out.
